EMily Greerson was crazy. I don't know about the town's people looking up to her, I got the feeling she was some what a bother, she was someone to keep them intertained or to gossip about.

So the story came from a real life matter of Richard looking up to a man in his town who dressed real nice but he commits suicide and they had an epiphany that looking up to him was not what they had hoped for as with Emily it is the same way. Her killing someone they never had hoped for such a thing. Why anyone looked up to her anyway was crazy because in the story she seemed a little weird more than anyone could handle.

I agree with Anna about Emily being a topic for gossip among the townspeople. Honestly, I think they criticized her more than they looked up to her. They talked about how she was a snob. I bet they really had something to gossip about once they found out she killed her husband.

I will have to agree with Anna and Melinda. I don't believe they looked up to her. I think that they were intrigued by her. They weren't intrigued only because of her actions but as the man said, because she represented the old ways or culture of the town.

I think the most important point of this lecture that the man was trying to get across was the suddenness of an ephiphany. Obviously he said the word ephiphany alot but he puts it to good use by explaining about the towns people in a Rose for Emily. They always tolerated her, albeit quite warily, but the epiphany at the end of the story is that they should have been wary. The crazy woman killed and kept her dead boyfriend's carcass in an upstairs bedroom where she slept with him. Wow
